U.S. and Canadian Service Center Shipment Growth Picks Up in May
18 June 2012 - Growth in May shipments of aluminum and steel accelerated in both the U.S. and Canada, an improvement from the smaller growth levels shown in April. Inventory positions improved slightly in both countries, according to the latest report from the Metals Service Center Institute.

Building New Bridge With Domestic Steel a Victory for U.S. and Canadian Workers, Says USW
15 June 2012 - The United Steelworkers (USW) today lauded the announcement by the United States and Canada of a deal to build a new bridge between Windsor and Detroit, the busiest border crossing between the two countries. The deal guarantees steel made solely in the United States and Canada will be used in the construction.

Commercial Metals Company Announces Sale Of Certain Croatian Pipe Mill Assets
14 June 2012 - Commercial Metals Company (CMC) announced the completion of the sale to an undisclosed and unaffiliated third-party of the assets related to the welded pipe mill and seamless pipe mill of CMC's former Croatian pipe mill, CMC Sisak d.o.o., for US$6.65 million. These assets were part of the assets excluded from the sale on June 1, 2012, of CMC Sisak to Industrielle Beteiligung SA.
World Stainless Production Shrank Slightly in First Quarter
14 June 2012 - The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) released preliminary data showing that stainless steel production shrank by 2.8% in the first three months of 2012. Total production was 8.6 million tonnes for the quarter, down from 8.8 million tonnes in the corresponding period of 2011. All areas showed a decrease in production in the year-on-year comparison.

USITC Upholds Import Duties on Certain Pipe and Tube After Five-Year Sunset Review
14 June 2012 - The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that revoking the existing countervailing duty order on certain circular welded pipe and tube from Turkey and the antidumping duty orders on these products from Brazil, India, Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.
