Preliminary Finished Steel Imports Decline 4% in July

25 August 2011 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,584,000 net tons of steel in July, down 5% from June final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 4% over the same period.

18 August 2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,639,108 net tons for the month of June 2011, a 3.5% increase from the previous month’s shipments according to the latest report from AISI.

Growth in Metal Shipments Continues to Slow

17 August 2011 - Service center shipments increased from year-ago levels, but growth rates continue to slow from earlier this year for both steel and aluminum in Canada and for steel in the U.S., according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Aluminum shipments in the U.S. declined slightly from July 2010.

Steel Import Permits Down 13% in July

04 August 2011 - Steel import permit applications reached 2,447,000 net tons for the month of July, a 13% decrease from the 2,797,000 permit tons recorded in June according to the latest report from AISI.

22 July 2011 - Total stainless steel imports reached 262,705 tons through YTD April 2011, a 43.0% increase compared to YTD April 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports reached 336,236 tons through the same period, a 43.6% increase compared to YTD April 2010.

ITC Reports Mixed Findings on Stainless Plate from Five Countries

21 July 2011 - The U.S. International Trade Commission determined that revoking the existing CVD order on stainless steel plate from South Africa and the existing AD orders on stainless plate from Belgium, Korea, South Africa, and Taiwan would likely lead to material injury. It also determined that revoking the existing AD order on stainless plate from Italy would not be likely to lead to material injury.

19 July 2011 - U.S. and Canadian metals service center shipments of both steel and aluminum increased in June from 2010 levels according to the latest Metals Activity Report from MSCI, although the rate of growth slowed significantly.

May Steel Shipments up 1.7% from April

ITC Makes Decision on Stainless Steel Sheet and Strip from Multiple Countries

11 July 2011 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined that revoking the existing countervailing duty order on stainless steel sheet and strip from Korea and the existing antidumping duty orders on stainless steel sheet and strip from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.
