Morgan to Upgrade Siscol Bar Mill

Morgan Construction Co. has received a contract from Southern Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., (Siscol), India, to upgrade the company’s steel mill.

Morgan will be responsible for the design, construction, and installation supervision of a new rod outlet that will be added to the company’s single-strand bar mill. The new rod outlet will produce low-to-high-carbon, low alloy, free cutting and cold heading quality wire rod ranging in size from 5.5 to 16.5 mm at 105 meters per second. The mill, which will be the fastest mill in India, will add 250,000 tonnes of annual wire rod capacity to the facility’s existing 250,000 tonnes per year of bar and bar-in-coil product capacity.

Morgan’s contract also includes a crop and divide shear, a No-Twist® Mill, water boxes with a Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS) and pinch roll. Morgan will also provide the laying head, Stelmor© conveyor, reform equipment and coil transfer car.

The mill will be designed at Morgan's Worcester headquarters, with equipment produced at the several of the company’s worldwide manufacturing facilities. The expected delivery date is February 2006.

Siscol was recently acquired by Jindal South West (JSW), part of the Jindal Group of companies, which owns both flat and rod steel producing companies near Bellary and Mumbai, India. Combined, these mills and other facilities of the Jindal Group produce five million tonnes of steel annually. With this upgrade, and other expansion plans, the company intends to increase Siscol’s production to one million tonnes per year.
