Morgan Construction Co. has received a contract from Thamesteel Ltd., for a coil handling and compacting system.
The equipment will be utilized for a rod outlet that is being installed as part of the effort to reinstate the merchant bars facility at Sheerness, U.K. Morgan will also assist Thamesteel in the relocation, upgrading and reconfiguration of the rod outlet that was previously located in South Korea.
Thamesteel’s new coil handling system will feature the overhead hook conveyor system, and a coil manipulator station to assist in coil inspection/trimming. The system will incorporate a coil weighing station and an unloader station with the capacity to hold 12 individual coils. It also features a Morgan horizontal coil compactor that is equipped with wire binding heads.
Morgan’s scope of supply also includes reconfiguration of the rod outlet’s water cooling line for production of High Yield Quenched and Self-Tempered (HYQST™) grades, and supply of an intermediate pinch roll, as well as the Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS). Thamesteel will install the Ring Distributor to ensure a quality coil package and assured pay-off properties.
The single-strand rod outlet, when completed, will produce HYQST rebar and mesh qualities initially, with planned future development of higher quality grades at speeds of up to 100 meters per second. The upgrade is scheduled to be installed by September of this year.
Thamesteel is a subsidiary of the Al-Tuwairqi Group of Companies, headquartered in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
