Koppers Renews Coke Contract with Mittal Steel

June 21, 2006 — Koppers and Mittal Steel USA have agreed to a three-year contract in which Koppers will sell 100% of its furnace coke production to Mittal.

Koppers’ current three-year contract with Mittal expires on December 31, 2006. The initial term of the new contract is January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2009. The contract also includes certain provisions which allow the term to be extended beyond the three-year period.

With corporate headquarters and a research center in Pittsburgh, Pa., Koppers is a global integrated producer of carbon compounds and treated wood products. Including its joint ventures, Koppers operates facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, Australia, China, the Pacific Rim and South Africa. Koppers produces furnace coke at its facility in Monessen, Pa., which has an annual capacity of approximately 360,000 net tons of furnace coke.
