In a statement, the company said the upgrades, which are to be completed by next March, will take the plant’s crude steel capacity from 12 million to 13 million metric tons annually. 

JSW said work on its No. 3 blast furnace is continuing, but it also will enhance its steel shop and build a 1.5 million metric ton coke oven plant. 

"The new capacity creation at JSW Vijayanagar Works supports our company’s growth plans while further improving the efficiency of our manufacturing operations. With steel consumption in India expected to grow, these capacity enhancement initiatives will ensure our readiness to promptly service emerging customer demand," said JSW Steel deputy managing director Vinod Nowal.
