India Imposes Import Duties on Stainless Products
12/15/2015 - India has imposed an anti-dumping duty on cold rolled stainless flat products from China, the European Union, the United States and other countries to protect domestic manufacturers.
The duties range from 4.6 percent to 57.4 percent and apply to South Korea, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand.
"It's a welcome step because today what is hurting the Indian manufacturing sector is dumping," said Seshagiri Rao, joint managing director at JSW Steel, told the Reuters news service.
The duty will remain in place for five years and applies to products between 600 mm and 1,250 mm in width.
The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association has said it believes the impact of the duties will be negligible because import trends have been toward widths greater than what’s covered under the order.
