Grupo Simec Announces Republic’s Acquisition of Bluff City Assets
03/31/2011 - Grupo Simec, S. A. B. de C. V. subsidiary Republic Engineered Products Inc. has acquired the assets of Bluff City, which include heat treat and cold drawing facilities.
Grupo Simec, S. A. B. de C. V. subsidiary Republic Engineered Products Inc. has acquired the assets of Bluff City.
Located in Cleveland, Ohio, and Memphis, Tenn., Bluff City’s facilities comprise a heat treatment facility and cold drawing of steel bars. With this acquisition, Republic enhances and complements its production of special bar quality products (SBQ).
Simec also announced that its plants located in San Luis Potosi, SLP and Apizaco, Tlaxcala, Mexico, have completed their meltshop investment programs. With the investment realized in San Luis Potosi plant, the installed capacity increased to one million tons of billet, for the production of rod, wire and derivatives. The investment will also help the facility to achieve savings in energy costs. With the investment in the Apizaco, Tlaxcala plant, the installed capacity increased to five thousand tons of billet, which allows the facility to be self-sufficient regarding billet for its mills.
These investments have increased Simec’s installed capacity above 5 million tons of steel production annually from all of its plants.
