February Steel Shipments Down 52.4% from February ‘08
04/23/2009 - U.S. steel mills shipped 4,320,000 net tons of steel in February 2009, a 52.4% decrease from February 2008 and a 5.7% decrease from January 2009 according to the latest report from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 4,320,000 net tons of steel in February 2009, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The report, which is based on the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, shows that total shipments reflect a considerable 52.4% decrease from the 9,064,000 net tons shipped in February 2008 and a 5.7% decrease from the 4,576,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2009.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments shows the following changes within major market classifications:
- Service centers and distributors, - 54.9%
- Automotive, - 57.7%
- Construction and contractors’ products, - 58.0%
- Oil and gas, - 39.7%
