Essar Steel Expands Service Center Capacity in India to 2.5 MTPA

Essar Steel has inaugurated its fourth Steel Service Centre facility in India at Bahadurgarh near New Delhi.

The new Bahadurgarh facility, which Essar set up at a cost of Rs 750 million, adds 250,000 tonnes/year of new processing capacity. The addition brings the company’s annual capacity from its four service centers in India to a total of 2.5 million tonnes/year, the largest processing capacity in the country.

Ideally located near the country’s largest auto hub, Essar’s new Bahadurgarh facility will include a cold rolled slitting line, cold rolled narrow and wide cut-to-length lines, and hot rolled cut-to-length line. The new facility will enable Essar Steel to cater to even single sheet customers, with small lots and customized deliveries for ready-to-use steel.

“This is one of our most modern steel processing facilities that will cater to various user segments in North India, like auto & auto components, white goods and SME,” said Vikram Amin, Executive Director, Sales and Marketing for Essar Steel. “We will also cater to the needs of our Essar Steelhypermart consumers.” Essar Steel has over 145 Hypermarts and Expressmarts across India.

Speaking at the facility’s inauguration, Essar Steel Business Group CEO J. Mehra said the company was planning to help meet the needs of customer service and just-in-time delivery to important segments of the country’s developing economy by investing over Rs. 1000 crore for setting up of such facilities across the country.

Essar Group Chairman Shashi Ruia noted that such investments were also part of the company’s strategy to be closer to its customers.

The new Bahadurgarh service center is backed by Essar Steel’s 4.6 million tonnes/year steel plant at Hazira, thus ensuring consistent supplies and quality of products. With the commissioning of the new facility, Essar Steel’s four service centers now have a combined capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum, which is the country’s largest.
