Ellwood Group Successfully Commissions New VOD Unit
01/21/2013 - Ellwood National Steel in Irvine, Pa., announced the commissioning of its vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) unit for the production of stainless steel ingots for forging, ring rolling and as electrodes for VAR and ESR remelting.
Ellwood National Steel (ENS) in Irvine, Pa., announced the commissioning of its vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) unit for the production of stainless steel ingots for forging, ring rolling and as electrodes for VAR and ESR remelting.
The VOD is in addition to ENS's existing ladle furnace melt shop which has producing carbon and alloy steel ingots for the trade since 2005 in weights to 24 tons in weight from melt heats up to 48 tons. ENS will also expand its ingot teeming capability to melt ingots to 45 tons in individual weight.
The VOD was manufactured and installed by SMS Siemag.
