Dates Set For CRU North American Steel Conference
08/12/2015 - London-based market analyst and consultancy CRU has set its ninth annual North American Steel conference for 26 and 27 October in Chicago, Ill., the firm has announced.
Speakers include Nucor Corp. CEO John Ferriola and Essar Steel Algoma Inc. CEO Kalyan Ghosh. They and other industry executives will be discussing a variety of issues, including demand trends, materials technology, cost competitiveness, and global threats to the U.S. steel market, CRU said.
Heading into this year's conference, the global steel industry is being challenged by quicker-than-anticipated contraction in Chinese demand and severe oversupply, CRU noted.
"Against this backdrop, the U.S. industry has performed relatively well and has unsurprisingly become the target of exports from a range of countries seeking to mitigate losses and take advantage of favorable exchange rates," CRU added.
The conference in the past has drawn the industry’s largest purchasers and representatives of the biggest mills, CRU said.
