Qatar Steel Co. (Qasco) recently selected Danieli Centro Met for a major meltshop upgrade and expansion. The project is slated to add approximately 600,000 tonnes per year of production capacity for commercial and quality steel billets.

The project, to be carried out on a complete turnkey basis, foresees the supply of new 80-tonnes EAF, two ladle furnaces and a 4-strand billet conticaster suitable for submerged casting operation. The project also foresees major upgrade of one of the existing EAFs.

The turnkey supply also includes auxiliary equipment and services such as cranes, fume and water treatment plants, electric substation and the extension of the existing buildings.

Project completion will be in year 2006.
