Aceralia Corrugados Azpeitia (ACA), Spain, will add a Danieli Spooler line to their Azpeitia bar mill.

This will be the 5th Danieli Spooler line ever supplied. The first, installed at Ferriere Nord, Italy, has been in operation since 2002. Subsequent lines include two lines due for startup at Alfa Acciai, Italy, and Nervacero, Spain, and one recently ordered in Turkey.

Spooling technology enables twist-free winding of hot-rolled bars into high-quality, ultra-compact, ultra-heavy coils featuring a unique cobble-free uncoiling capability. Spooling allows cold processing lines to be directly fed with hot rolled coils, making the traditional cold decoiling, stretching and rewinding processes no longer necessary, yielding substantial savings in transformation costs.

ACA’s Spooler line will produce 8- to 32-mm diameter rebars, twist-free-wound at a speed of up to 35 meters/second into 1.8-tonne coils, at rates of up to 110 tonnes/hour. Danieli Automation will supply electricals, automation and the process control system.

Startup is scheduled to take place at the end of 2005.
