Modern Electric Furnace Steelmking — A Practical Training Seminar

The conference began with a welcome from the Electric Steelmaking Technology Committee (ESTC) education chairs Brett azMcGee and Alex England. They discussed how the course has been revamped based on new technologies and shifting focuses in the industry.
The conference welcomed a few new presenters such as Rob Oldroyd of Nucor Corp. discussing process automation, and Jackson Kuntze from Tokai Carbon discussing electric arc furnace regulation and electrode handling. The course also held a panel discussion with many of the presenters available to answer questions. This year Bob LaRoy from Steel Dynamics Inc. joined the panel.
Seminar attendees had the opportunity to tour the micro-mill Nucor Steel Florida Inc. in Frostproof, Fla., USA. The group was welcomed by mill personnel to tour the mill from furnace through bundling. The ESTC would like to thank all the presenters and sponsors for this event, and most importantly the attendees. The next course is planned for February 2023 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
