Commerce Department to Continue Case on Threaded Rod from China

The U.S. Department of Commerce will continue to conduct its antidumping investigation of steel threaded rod imported from China following the ITC’s determination that there is a reasonable indication of real or threatened material injury.

The decision to continue the case follows the United States International Trade Commission’s (ITC’s) determination that there is a reasonable indication of real or threatened injury due to imports of this product from China that is allegedly sold in the United States at less than fair value. All six Commissioners voted in the affirmative.

The steel threaded rod in this investigation is made from carbon steel, can be any length or diameter, and into which threaded grooves have been applied along its length. A variety of finishes or coatings may be applied, such as a plain oil finish, galvanized, paint, and other finishes and coatings. It is primarily used in commercial construction; normally one end is fastened to the ceiling and the other end is fastened to the support that is holding the pipes or ductwork.

The Department of Commerce’s preliminary determination is due on or about August 12, 2008.
