Clean and Green: Electra and Interfer Sign Collaboration Agreement
12/17/2024 - Ironmaking startup Electra has signed an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a German steel importer to collaborate on clean iron production for specialty steel.
In a statement, the companies said they intend to pair Electra’s electrochemical ironmaking technology and Interfer Edelstahl Group’s network to help meet demand for green steel and green raw materials.
“We regard Electra’s approach to produce low-carbon iron and thereby help transform the iron and steel industry as one of a kind,” said Interfer chief executive officer Gerold Lorenz. “Innovations like this will make a big impact not only for our two companies, but the overall environmental footprint of our industry and we are proud to be part of this development.”
Through access to a reliable supply of Electra’s high-purity, clean iron, Interfer can further support their European customers’ goals of decarbonization, the companies said. This supply will also help Interfer in their own sustainability goals to reduce emissions by 42% by 2030.
“As Electra continues to scale our clean iron production, partnerships with industry leaders like Interfer are essential,” said Electra chief executive officer and co-founder Sandeep Nijhawan. “Our modular system is designed for rapid deployment to meet the demand of partners and manufacturers looking to incorporate high-purity iron into their operations.”
