Belgo Mineira recently produced its first heats at new steelmaking facilities in Piracicaba.
The meltshop comprises new Danieli equipment including 130-ton EAF, LF, alloy charging system, pulse-jet type fume treatment plant and auxiliaries. An existing upgraded continuous caster and associated new hot charging facilities for billets are also included.
The Danieli high-speed bar mill, installed in connection to the new meltshop, will start hot running by the end of June this year. Belgo Mineira will then operate a state-of-the art new minimill, with a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per year of liquid steel and 500,000 tonnes per year of plain and deformed rolled bars.
