Baosteel Receives Caterpillar ‘Excellent Supplier’ Gold Medal

Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. is one of two companies, and the only iron and steel company, in the Asia-Pacific region to win a Caterpillar "excellent supplier" gold medal.
 
Caterpillar established a corporate relationship with Baosteel in the areas of steel appliance and R&D more than 10 years ago. Since 2005, Baosteel has supplied structural steel to Caterpillar, which is the world’s largest manufacturer of engineering machinery, mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines.
 
Caterpillar updated its supplier qualification system in 2007, rating qualifications into four grades: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze, according to competitive advantage and strength. That year, Baoshan Iron & Steel won an "excellent supplier" silver medal.
 
Baosteel set up special working teams to improve its ranking, with the Product Development Department taking the lead. Other departments and units, including the Sheet Sales Department, Baosteel Intl. Steel Trading Co., Ltd., Operation Improvement Department, Manufacture Department, and Hot Rolling Plant, also participated. Since that undertaking, the company claims that it has become the sole gold-medal winner in Asia-Pacific to supply steel to Caterpillar.
