Axiom ERP Yields Positive Results at Johnstown Wire Technologies

Consona Corp. reports the successful implementation of Axiom ERP for Johnstown Wire Technologies, Inc.
The wire manufacturer, a former division of the former Bethlehem Steel, had successfully established its own infrastructure, choosing Axiom ERP as its enterprise resource planning system.
The Axiom ERP system has helped Johnstown Wire Technologies meet steel manufacturing requirements for quality and provide critical documentation of test results.
“We needed a package that was geared to the metals industry,” said Johnstown Wire Technologies IT Manager Jolene Kmett. “And we wanted an integrated, high-quality system. We also felt that AXIS was a company that we could partner with.”
Implementation of Axiom ERP also helped Johnstown Wire Technologies achieve the following results:
- Created a streamlined flow of quality testing and certification for on-time shipments.
- Improved scrap analysis and monitoring
- Doubled shipments with no increase in staff
- Gained inventory control and reduced the need for physical counts
- Gained a better understanding of costs and, as a result, improved margins
- Supported the process in helping shipments to increase from 7000-8000 tons to 12,000-14,000 tons.
- Enhanced scrap control and analysis, a key component in cost analysis.
- Significantly improved cost and margin analysis allowing for improved profitability.
One key objective Axiom ERP helped the company achieve was getting product out to quickly to customers. “We never have a day when we can’t plan and load every scheduled truck, and ship all the product,” said Kmett. “We’ve never had the system delay us.”
Axiom also helps manage quality testing and documentation. This is a key part of the production process, as all quality tests must be completed and passed before the lot can be shipped.
“The flow of information is important to getting the product out the door,” commented Kmett.
Axiom ERP helps to ensure that Johnstown Wire Technology’s lots are correctly labeled, even with materials coming from multiple sources. According to the company, the system has helped to reduce labeling errors and simplify material movement. The system also helped with tagging of finished product according to customer requirements.
Quality data tracking, inventory control and traceability have also helped Johnstown Wire Technologies reduce its physical inventory to one count per year, and to more accurately calculate costs for each process and part. Advance ship notices, certifications and invoices are now emailed directly from the system, which has helped the company save time and enhance customer service.
