ArcelorMittal Tube Plant in Ostrava Supplies Tubes for Polish Gas Pipeline

ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Ostrava a.s. (AMTPO), a subsidiary of ArcelorMittal Ostrava, concluded a significant contract with GAZ System, a Polish gas distributor. AMTPO shall participate in the construction of the backbone network of gas pipelines in Poland with no less than one third of the volume of the supplies of spirally welded tubes.

"I’m glad that our products have done well in such a large competition thanks to their quality. Within this project we have already supplied Poland with 27 kilotons of spirally welded tubes with the diameter of 711 mm, of a special quality. The technical specification is very demanding and includes a multitude of quality requirements beyond the scope of usual standards," says Otto Mischinger, the CEO of AMTPO.

Before it submitted its bid to the tender, AMTPO had successfully undergone a demanding pre-qualification process, in which only three consortia succeeded in the end because of high quality requirements. Together with another two Polish partners AMTPO is a member of a consortium, which guarantees meeting of all demanding financial, commercial, and technical preconditions of the supplies to the Polish gas sector. In the project of a 694 km (132 kt) gas pipeline, AMTPO shall participate with its supplies during the period of three years. Until present, 145 km (27 kt) of tubes have been supplied. The company responsible for the construction and operation of the terminal for liquefied natural gas in the Polish port Świnoujście is Polish company GAZ System.

Last year AMTPO participated in the construction of STORK gas pipeline leading from the underground tank in Třanovice to the Czech-Poland border. In this project AMTPO cooperated with the gas company RWE.
