ArcelorMittal Ramps up Production ... of Plastic Face Shields
04/09/2020 - The world’s largest steelmaker is bringing its R&D resources to bear in the fight against the COVID-19 virus and has begun making 3D-printed ventilators and face shields, the company said.
ArcelorMittal said that in Spain, it already has begun delivering 3D-printed face shields to both medical professionals and personnel at its Asturias plant.
In addition, the company said it is collaborating with leading researchers and medical professionals in Spain to produce ventilators using 3D-printed components.
The ventilators are currently undergoing trials and safety tests and must receive regulatory approval before being put into use.
“Our success over the years has been built on the foundation provided by our engineering capabilities and R&D expertise, and more recently, exploring the potential of 3D printing for steel solutions. But in a time of a crisis, we all want to help so we look at our resources and consider what role we can play,” said Greg Ludkovsky, chief executive of research and development at ArcelorMittal.
