ArcelorMittal Iasi Commissions New Cold Mill

The Tubular Products Division of ArcelorMittal has commissioned a new cold formed mill in their Iasi, Romania facility.

The new cold form line will be capable of processing sizes ranging from 60.3 to 193.7 mm in diameter and from 50 x 50 mm up to 150 x 150 mm square with a wall thickness from 2.00 to 10.00 mm, allowing the facility to supply tubular products for various mechanical and construction tubing applications, including sprinkler systems, pressure pipes, conveyor rolls, etc.

Implemented in response to customer needs regarding delivery, product quality and range, the new mill will allow the Iasi facility to successfully decommission six high-cost, outdated lines. "This investment was made as a part of the strategy to move towards more cost effective and high productivity facility to serve the market better." Gonzalo Urquijo, a member of the GMB, ArcelorMittal.

The company constructed the new line in order to increase the facility’s efficiency and reduce costs to service the domestic and regional markets. The new mill, which has an annual capacity of 120,000 tonnes, will comply with all European standards in terms of product quality, efficiency and overall operation.

"This investment in Iasi is only the first large investment in this region despite the slowdown of economy in that region, keeping in mind that there is very good potential in infrastructure and construction growth in Romania," said Cristian Gradinaru, CEO, ArcelorMittal Iasi.

ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iasi is the largest producer of longitudinal welded steel tubes in Romania and one of the country's market leaders for mechanical tubes.
