AK Steel's Zanesville Works Recognized for Outstanding Safety Performance
04/02/2012 - The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene has recognized AK Steel's Zanesville Works for Outstanding Safety Performance.
AK Steel's Zanesville (Ohio) Works has been recognized by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene for outstanding safety performance.
The recognition is part of a collaborative safety awareness program established by the Muskingum County Safety Council and Chamber of Commerce. AK Steel's Zanesville Works received the "100% Award for Safety" for operating the entire year of 2011 without any lost-time injuries or illnesses.
The Zanesville plant also received a "Special Award for Safety" for operating 3,932,145 hours without a lost-time injury between April 21, 2003 and December 31, 2011.

According to AK Steel, the company's corporate-wide safety performance was about 5.5 times better than the steel industry average for the full year 2011.
AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, infrastructure and manufacturing, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company employs about 6200 men and women in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pa.; Ashland, Ky.; Rockport, Ind.; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.
AK Tube LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AK Steel, employs about 300 men and women in plants in Walbridge, Ohio, and Columbus, Ind. AK Tube produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive and other markets.
AK Coal Resources, Inc., another wholly-owned subsidiary of AK Steel, owns or leases metallurgical coal reserves in Somerset County, Pa. AK Steel also owns 49.9% of Magnetation LLC, a joint venture headquartered in Grand Rapids, Minn., that produces iron ore concentrate from previously mined ore reserves.
