AK Steel Announces Price Increase, April Surcharges

March 17, 2006 — AK Steel announced that it will increase spot market prices for its carbon steel products by $30 per ton for all new orders accepted for shipment May 1, 2006 and later.

AK Steel also announced that it will add a $189 per ton surcharge to invoices for flat-rolled carbon steel products shipped in April 2006. A $200 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in the same period.

AK Steel bases its surcharges on reported prices for the raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with February 2006 purchase costs used to determine the April 2006 surcharges. The company has posted its April surcharges on its website.

Headquartered in Middletown, Ohio, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products, as well as carbon and stainless tubular steel products, for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets.
