TAKING A CHANCE ON STEEL

Jesse Quiroga, marketing specialist, EAFab Corp., is following in the footsteps of her "mini steel celebrity" parents and joined the family business after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh.

Quiroga was first introduced to AIST as a student in 2021, where she participated in a Steel to Students event. Since becoming an AIST Young Professional, Jesse has taken a leadership position with the Pittsburgh Member Chapter and is excited to bring people together in the industry.

2025 April Issue

Electric smelting/melting furnaces (ESF/EMF) offer a commercial-ready pathway to decarbonization of ironmaking, particularly for processing direct reduced iron (DRI) from blast furnace–grade ores. When coupled with a DRI production facility, the ESF is a drop-in replacement for the blast furnace at integrated steelmaking facilities. Electric ironmaking has been practiced for decades by operators like BlueScope’s New Zealand Steel as shown on the cover, leveraging proven and optimized technology by Hatch. Read more on page 4.
