Outotec to Provide Technology for Tata Steel Sinter Plant
08/15/2007 - Outotec will provide the design and basic engineering, supply proprietary equipment, and provide supervisory services for a new iron ore sinter plant – India’s largest to date – for Tata Steel's new Kalinganagar steel plant project.
Outotec has been awarded a contract by Tata Steel to supply design and basic engineering for an iron ore sinter plant for Tata Steel's new Kalinganagar steel plant project in India. Outotec will also supply proprietary equipment and provide supervisory services for the iron ore sinter plant, which will be the largest in India to date.
The new sinter plant will be part of a new integrated steel plant Tata Steel is planning to build at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex of Duburi in the Jajpur district of Orissa. The plant will have an annual capacity of six million tonnes of steel. Outotec's delivery is part of the first phase of the project.
The local portion of the sinter plant project will be executed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd, whose scope of work covers detail engineering, local supplies, erection and commissioning, along with site services including civil and structural works.
"This contract reinforces the long-standing partnership between Tata Steel and Outotec, based on the earlier four sinter plants that we have supplied for Tata Steel's Jamshedpur works. The order for the Kalinganagar sinter plant also strengthens Outotec's position as the leading supplier of agglomeration technologies for the iron and steel industry, especially in the highly competitive Indian market", says Tapani Järvinen, President and CEO of Outotec.
Outotec’s contract is valued at approximately EUR 35 million.
