“Advice for the Steel Industry’s Young Professionals on Navigating the Current Marketplace” • 21 July 2020

In the midst of the downturn brought on by the global pandemic, the AIST Young Professionals Steering Committee recognized that this may be the first time some Young Professionals have experienced a setback in the steel industry. The group saw an opportunity to host its first virtual event: they invited four experienced steel industry professionals that happened to be starting their careers when the recession hit in 2008–2009. The four panelists each shared their respective experiences, talked about the hard lessons they learned during the recession and explained how Young Professionals today may be able to leverage this seemingly unfortunate downtime in their favor.

Although we are all working through an unprecedented time, you may apply the same principles they share to help navigate through this period. With their insight, we hope to ensure the next generation of steel professionals comes out of this experience much stronger than before it started.

The event was a success, with 151 Young Professional attendees.
