Hot Strip Mill Automation
March 9, 2004 — International Steel Group recently awarded a contract to Integrated Mill Systems, Inc. (IMS), Industrial Process Support Services, Inc. (IPSS) and Automation Software & Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) for the replacement of Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems on the 84-Inch Hot Strip Mill at the company’s Cleveland facility.
The new automation systems’ functional scope covers the entire process from furnace charging through to coiling. The new system will be based on state-of-the-art, open, standards-based hardware and software. In consideration of the mill's production requirements, the transition from the old to new system will be managed in stages.
IMS is responsible for all Level 1 functionality and overall project management. IPSS is providing new process models for the Roughing Mill, Finish Mill, and Coiling Temperature Control areas. AS&E is providing the business computer interfaces, HMI, and non-model Level 2 functionality.
Commissioning will be completed in 2004.
